Peppermint oil has a strong, distinctive fragrance and is commonly used in aromatherapy to invigorate and refresh. However, peppermint oil has other benefits when used around your home, such as repelling insects like bees and wasps. The strong scent of this oil may ward away bees that are trying to settle around your property in a non-toxic way, so you don’t need to resort to chemical pest control measures.
To use peppermint oil to keep away bees and other stinging insects, add several drops of the oil into a spray bottle filled with water. Add a few drops of dish soap so that the mixture blends and then combine thoroughly. You can also add other scents that bees dislike, such as clove and lemongrass oil. Spray this mixture around windows, doors, and the foundation of your home, around patios and decks, and on the wooden siding of your home to deter bee invasions.
You can repeat this application every few days until the number of bees around your property is reduced. Be careful when applying peppermint oil, however, as it can be harmful to cats and dogs if ingested by them.
